Zaíno was founded in 2021 by two young writers from Bogota who
wanted to find new literary voices from Latin America.
Zaíno seeks literature that resists the commonplace, that discomforts
its readers, and that it’s capable of playing with language. For Juan
José Ferro and Carlos Ospina, cofounders, and editors, Zaínos’
books must provide a new, perhaps different, understanding of the
world. Great literature should stretch the boundaries of the readers’
discernible world.
The stories told in Zaíno dance with its readers without stepping on
their toes. The rhythm must resist readers’ imagination. Literature is
an attempt to create images, to take them away from the obvious, to
move them away from the evident. Throughout the dance that resists
the temptation of the commonplace, Zaíno’s literature can be found.
Zaíno’s authors should master the language and play with it. It is
about expanding the temporal, syntactical, and grammatical limits of
language. Here, the game between the writer and the reader appears.
Zaíno means new voices and strange rhythms.
That is what Carlos and Juan José are looking for.
